December 2025 Volunteer Newsletter

Volunteer Spotlight Banner

For this month’s Volunteer Spotlight, we’re proud to highlight Jennifer Rock, who has been volunteer driving with us for about four years. She was drawn to our program because she wanted a flexible volunteer opportunity where she could support seniors in a meaningful way. Jennifer’s favorite part of volunteering is getting to chat with the seniors on her route, and she especially enjoys meeting all of their pets along the way. Outside of Meals on Wheels, Jennifer works as a neurology nurse practitioner, where part of her work involves caring for patients with dementia and memory loss. In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Bear and Mocha, as well as their two cats, Duke and Mischief. She enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, traveling, gardening, working out, and tackling home projects. Thank you Jennifer for all that you do for MOWGSC!

For this month’s Volunteer Spotlight, we’re excited to feature Karen Brown, who has been volunteering with us for 2 ½ years. With a long-standing interest in the senior community, Karen previously worked in senior skilled home health services and hospice contracts through the VA. When she heard about our Silver Cafes, she knew it was exactly where she wanted to continue serving, especially living in a small town where access to services can be limited. She loves the fun and friendship she’s found here, appreciating how well the team works together to support one another and provide the best care to our seniors. Outside of volunteering, Karen and her husband, a retired Marine who served 27 years, have lived around the world, including Okinawa and Germany. Her adult children live across California, Louisiana, and Washington, and she has four grandchildren with another arriving in January. She recently completed the Camino by bike and is already planning a biking trip through Ireland next summer. A Master Gardener, she especially enjoys growing dahlias, and at home she cares for five goats, a dog, and a new kitten. She says life is awesome, and she feels truly blessed. Thank you Karen!

All routes will pick up from the kitchen (218 N Crestline) at 10:00am Christmas Day. If you’re available, join us in spreading warmth, joy, and gratitute to our seniors!

Are You Using Our Mobile Meals App?

It’s a free app for your smart phone that you can use to navigate through your route - mark meals as delivered, call the office or your client, and even write notes to our client care team. Chat with us at the office to get going with the app today!

Heads up for the Holidays!

We’ll be closed Dec 25–26 and Jan 1.

We know many of you may also be traveling or unavailable during this time. To help us plan routes and ensure all of our clients continue receiving meals, please let us know as early as possible if you’ll need time off around the holidays. Thank you for helping us stay ahead and keep everything running smoothly!

Is your Food Handler Card up to date?

If not, you can head over to our main office and take the test, or from any computer at your convenience. Your card needs to be updated every two years while you are serving with us.
