September 2025 Volunteer Newsletter

Volunteer Spotlight Banner

For a little over a year, we’ve been grateful to have Margaret delivering meals on the north side of Spokane. Having long known the value Meals on Wheels brings to older citizens, she was excited to join in a role that she could physically manage while making a real difference.

Her favorite part of volunteering is seeing the smiles on clients’ faces and hearing their gratitude, especially on Fridays when she also delivers frozen weekend meals. Outside of volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Margaret stays busy as a proud grandparent of four: three in Bend, Oregon, and one here locally who just started first grade at Freeman Elementary. Last year, she loved volunteering weekly in his kindergarten class. She also dedicates time to Feast World Kitchen, where she’s been volunteering for five years and has built friendships with people from around the globe. Whether enjoying her backyard, gardening, reading, cooking, riding her E-bike, or spending time with loved ones, Margaret’s kindness and energy shine through everything she does. Thank you Margaret!

For the past few months, we’ve been lucky to have Deborah serving as a volunteer at the Silver Café in the Spokane Valley Senior Center. With a warm smile and a heart for service, she finds joy in making sure seniors feel seen, valued, and never alone. Her favorite part of volunteering is serving meals and spending time talking with the seniors who come to the café, brightening their day with kindness and connection.

After a 21-year career as an accountant, retirement has given her more time to enjoy painting, singing, and being with people. Deborah reminds us that life is happier when we give to others, and that each of us has something to offer to make the world a better place. Thank you Deborah for all that you do!
